Birchwood Animal Hospital was the first small animal practice established in West
Winnipeg, founded in 1959 by Dr. Elmer Clark. Today, we are proud to be the largest
full-service small animal hospital in this part of the city, conveniently located on Portage
Avenue with on-site parking. Our team includes seven veterinarians, and we remain
proudly independent and locally owned.
We provide comprehensive veterinary care for dogs, cats, rabbits, and small mammals
— from wellness care for every life stage to medical visits, surgery, dentistry, and
nutrition. Our in-house laboratory offers bloodwork and urinalysis, complemented by
digital X-ray, ultrasonography, and endoscopy. Our full dental suite, complete with digital
dental radiographs, ensures your pet’s oral health is thoroughly cared for. During
surgical and dental procedures, a dedicated veterinary technologist monitors your pet
using state-of-the-art anesthetic and monitoring equipment for safety and comfort. We
are trained in fear-free handling techniques to reduce stress for our patients.
