Mela’s journey in veterinary medicine began at just sixteen, when a volunteer position at a local vet clinic turned into her first job as a veterinary assistant. Inspired by the compassion and dedication she saw in the field, she knew she wanted to spend her life advocating for animals and the people who love them.

She joined Birchwood Animal Hospital in 2008 and graduated from Red River College the following year as a Registered Veterinary Technologist. Since then, Mela has developed special interests in anesthesia, emergency medicine, and pet nutrition. She’s passionate about providing thoughtful, high-quality care for every patient she meets.

When she’s not at the clinic, Mela enjoys running, hiking, curling, and spending time with her husband, Brandon. At home, she’s happily surrounded by their eight cats — and usually a good book!
